Nature’s Nectar – Zambia

Nature’s Nectar distributes locally produced Kenyan top bar beehives to rural farmers in NW Zambia. These hives are long-lasting and help to protect local trees as well as the bees themselves through sustainable production and harvesting methods. Nature’s Nectar is then the sole and guaranteed buyer of all honey coming from these hives, which we then process and export.

Problem in this region :

– Lack of access to any type of financing to buy new crops or goods for sale

– Very little infrastructure in place to enable farmers to develop in commercial production

– Poor education and little availability to acquire new skills and training

– Farmers live in isolated communities without cellular networks or banks.

The main consequences are:

– Continuous cycles of poverty, with families investing less and less each generation in education and skills.

– High malnutrition rates and low life expectancy

– Zambia’s economy relies almost exclusively on a few local food products and copper, with a massive lack of diversity.

– Relatively no access to external funding or very costly funding to reach the banks / financial institutions to receive any form of capital

About the project

This project is really at the beginning phase, and it’ll be challenging.

The core of the project will focus on 3 activities:

–  To better understand how beekeepers use their income from honey production using the data collected by the organization.

–  Assistance in the research of the world honey market but more particularly Africa.

–  Optimization of the hives.Think of a hive as efficient but at lower cost that can be produced locally.

But you would be able to see really your impact at the end easily. You can count on the organisation to provide you the data and the necessary details.

Two coaches would be there too to guide you along the way. Coaches will be trained on different subjects such as social entrepreneurship, teamwork, …
