Green Bio Energy – Uganda

Agro-DR is a non-profit association whose missions are to promote self-promotion and good governance in village communities, to strengthen the capacities and participation in collective actions of local community associations and bodies, and to strengthen the production systems of actors in the village communities. The project is located in Lomé, Togo, on the Djagblé plain which covers the southern lower catchment area of the Zio River and concentrates market gardening production essentially supplying the markets of Lomé.

With the influx of chemical inputs mainly from neighbouring countries (Ghana, Nigeria) and their economic accessibility, market gardening practices have very quickly evolved towards greater use of synthetic pesticides and fertilisers. Paradoxically, information on appropriate doses and methods of application has not followed and the various practices impact on the environment, health and household economy. The evaluation of the actions carried out in the framework of a previous project reveals a low adoption of agro-ecological production techniques and identifies as the cause of this low adoption, the inexistence of commercial innovation and the lack of promotion of agro-ecological production among consumers.

About the project

Your mission as an AFD student would be :

– Aims to provide advice to market gardeners on the practices to be implemented in order to make the transition to more agro-ecological production systems. To achieve this, the AFD project team will mobilize a first center of expertise that will work on the adoption of agro-ecological practices by market gardeners in the Djagblé plain;

– The promotion and marketing of products from agro-ecological agriculture. These actions include the creation of sales outlets in Lomé, promotion in popular markets and a more advanced marketing strategy to reach all classes of the population of Lomé. This axis will be devoted to the development of a marketing strategy to sell local production in the most appropriate way and targeting customers in a precise manner.

But you would be able to see really your impact at the end easily. You can count on the organisation to provide you the data and the necessary details.

Two coaches would be there too to guide you along the way, one for each axis.
