ABOUT THE PROJECT:

The project, based in León, Nicaragua, addresses significant social and economic challenges in the local community. Many single mothers rely on their parents for childcare and income, while children with disabilities face limited education and job opportunities. Additionally, access to nutritious foods, such as mushrooms, remains scarce. The project offers a solution through small-scale mushroom production. Using waste materials like coffee grounds, sawdust, and cardboard as substrate, mushrooms will be cultivated in plastic bags. The harvested mushrooms will be sold to the host organization for use in their menu, with surplus production offered at fair prices to staff or the local market. This initiative combines sustainability with economic empowerment, creating opportunities for the local community.
