Agrimulimi, UGANDA

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

In SSA, fresh produce is mainly traded in open markets. The open air fresh produce value chain is facing up to 40% of food waste due to post-harvest losses. The informality of Kampala’s markets, characterised by a lack of proper structures and combined with inadequate sanitation practices, contributes to poor handling of produce, further worsening the problem resulting in significant income losses for market participants. Many solutions are needed along the fresh produce value chain, but the end game is a logistic distribution system that performs all vital functions of commodity market trade platform with price controlled, grade assured on-time pick-up and delivery, ensured payments, market price transparency, and opportunities for price hedging using futures.

Agrimulimi Fresh Solutions is a business model lab through which various supply chain solutions are integrated and tested, in order to find the most efficient and cost-effective solutions that can be scaled up. Today, Agrimulimi focuses on the tomato value chain, where we aim at achieving a more targeted and efficient approach to creating sustainable and profitable operations within the fresh produce value chain.
