ABOUT THE PROJECT:

Due to global warming, the Sahel desert is expanding and Togo is affected by an increasingly severe drought. In addition, much wood is being cut for kitchen use, among other things. For these reasons, the organisation Akay Esseboe wants to combat desertification by reforesting. The tree nursery sells saplings and is still under development. The intention is to help expand the business plan and look for fundings to make the organisation more profitable. Sensibilisation on the concept of global warming will be an important part as well. Sensibilisation is done in two ways: by organising presentation/information events in villages, both for adults and children. This will be mainly in an interactive way. In addition, forest classes will be organised in the site of Akay Esseboe for schools in the future. It is planned to help with the content and organisation of these forest classes.

Akay Esseboe is an organisation that was founded because of the effects of climate change. As well as the drought problems, they are also concerned about the rapid deforestation due to overexploitation. Deforestation could be very bad for the current ecosystem, the health of the population and their food supply. Out of these concerns the idea for ‘the school of life, the ecology and sustainable development’ was created.
