CARABAYLLO, PERU

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

One of the few natural landscapes that exist in the province of Lima, are the “Lomas” of Carabayllo. The Lomas are phytogeographic units formed from the condensation of sea water. This fog allows the development of specific types of vegetation. Urbanisation however forms a threat for the conservation of the native flora of the Lomas. The main goal of the project is to improve the quality of life of the Carabayllo district, by teaching residents the important value that the Lomas represent for the care of the environment in which they live and that it is also possible to use that vegetation as a source of green in their homes. This is done by spreading knowledge about the local biodiversity and also coming up with nature based regeneration activities that can be applied on site.

What:

Explore the potential of the Lomas as a source of urban greenery in the cities and share  this knowledge among the residents in the Lomas. Prove that this biodiversity can help to improve the quality of life through a better environment and can be a source of food for the local community and thus source of income for the families.
