Deploy Resource Africa, UGANDA
ABOUT THE PROJECT:
This project tackles the issue of import and inflation centred around shoe brushes. Leather shoes are hugely popular in Uganda, making demand for shoe brushes much greater than supply. The resulting mass import drives prices up, resulting in good quality brushes that Ugandans cannot afford anymore getting replaced by cheap but unsustainable, non- durable and poor quality synthetic brushes damaging the leather. At the same time, large quantities of animal hair -useful material for brushes – are poorly disposed of, negatively affecting the environment. Deploy resource Africa’s objective is to replace these synthetic brushes by locally made eco-friendly ones derived from cow tail hair, tackling the inflation and waste problem at the same time. AFD students will help this organisation by improving their production processes and strengthening their position on the market.
