About the project
Enabel works together with the urbanisation intervention (UEDi) in Rwanda to combine green construction development in three cities with the development of locally made construction material value chains and skills development in the sector. What is still a challenge, is the lack of practical and important core skills among graduates in the construction area.
A team of Belgian students will work together with Rwandan young employees in order to map out the best practices in WPL (WorkPlace Learning) of both countries. In this way, they hope to enable Rwandan students to graduate with more relevant hands-on learning experience. The Belgian team will also prepare a business idea to launch a company with a social purpose (social entrepreneurship).
Preparatory work
– Mapping of best practices in workplace learning from both countries while using testimonials from different parties. What are some good examples in Belgium that could be interesting for Rwanda and the other way around?
– Preparing a study visit of Rwandan partners (government agencies, schools, private sector…) to Belgium to meet with implementing agencies, to visit best practice schools and to get inspired to implement these best practices in Rwanda.
– Preparing a business idea to launch a company with a social purpose (social entrepreneurship) by the students.
In-field work
– A reality check of proposed action plans by talking with different parties involved.
– Drawing a final list of recommendations.
– Making suggestions for capacity building of sectoral federations.
– Giving recommendations to other sector(s) to implement WPL in a Rwandese context, given the economic situation and government’s strategic plans.
– Elaborating the business idea
