KAMUTAMBA, ZAMBIA

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

In Zambia, rural health care facilities struggle to receive sufficient funds to cover all operational and running costs. Because of this, the Kamutamba project was set up in close collaboration with St Theresa Mission Hospital IGA board to improve the income generating activities. A second social problem in Zambia is that family farming and thus family income are depending highly on the non-climate resilient monoculture production of maize (corn). Combining these two problems, the Kamutamba Farm was set up. On one hand to provide extra income for the hospital but also to create jobs for the local community, to be a learning ground for local farmers and serve as an agricultural education facility. The goal of the project is to make a life cycle analysis of the sustainable agricultural production site (the Kamutamba Farm), including a marketing and impact assessment through a business SWOT model. There is a need for a financial cost and profits description of opportunities and solutions of existing problems that the farm is struggling with and the practical implementation of the found solutions.
