KIKESA, CONGO

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

The commune of Livulu, in Kinshasa, DR Congo, is threatened by the expansion of a ravine through water erosion. Heavy precipitation, sandy soils and inadequate infrastructure are a deadly cocktail for landslides in the region. Several houses and schools are in danger when no stabilizing measures are taken. The project aims to reduce the impact of extreme rainfall by implementing technical solutions, and by creating awareness inside the community about causes and effective solutions. In the past 3 years, the student teams have focused mainly on developing technical solutions. This year’s team will focus more on awareness creation and stakeholder engagement.
