About the project
Strong reading skills are indispensable in order to participate fully in all aspects of social life in this literate society. But for a significant proportion of the population, it seems difficult to achieve a level of reading literacy that will enable them to understand and draw conclusions from compact texts, having an influence on the individual lives of those affected and on the socio-economic prosperity of a country.
OYE LENA notices year after year that pupils cannot read at the end of the first grade. For some, this difficulty continues into later school years. To tackle this problem, the organisation wants to develop their own eclectic reading method for Spanish. In the long term, they want to contribute to raising the literacy levels of children, adolecents and adults in Peru.
If you apply for this project and get accepted for the team, the following would be, amongst others, your challenges and goals:
– Further develop the eclectic reading method
– Build a website where it can be found
– Personalisation of educational material (graphic & content-wise)
– Developing of didactic games and applications that support the learning process
– Building a business model for OYE LENA to be financially self-sustaining
During the preparation months in Belgium you will mainly concentrate on the development of the beekeeping activities and the market study, while during the implantation phase of 6 weeks in July and August, you will help the organisation with the installation and marketing strategy.
