Social incubator is an NGO that promotes social entrepreneurship and business development in Peru through tools such as training/coaching, funding and networking. They try to establish business ecosystems where the social enterprises in Peru can start up. The project itself takes place in cooperation with WARA, a social enterprise in Madre de Dios, a region in the jungle in the east of Peru founded in april 2016. WARA is dedicated to agroindustrial processing of local fruits and products, and gives back to the community by preserving biodiversity and contributing to the reduction of poverty and inequality in this area. The main goal of the project will be to support WARA by searching for ways to improve, increase and promote their production process.

The challenges that are present in the Madre de Dios society are the lack of exploitation of the Amazonian products, poverty and an informal mining industry that creates environmental and political problems. WARA offers products such as liqueurs, jams, oils, pickles and chocoazú. This social business can be a source of income and motivation for the start of new business among the community. WARA conducts constant research and innovation for the development of new products.

The knowledge of students (e.i. new food, processing technologies, handling of raw material, implementation of food control systems, marketing strategies, among others) is required to guide social entrepreneurs, such as WARA, to an economically viable business and to strengthen their social impact. They also want an upgrade of their processing plant specifically for the products they produce to improve quality and competitiveness.
