TPSI & SHAJU, PERU
ABOUT THE PROJECT:
Social enterprises like Shaju tackle significant challenges in Iquitos society entrepreneurially, aiming to create shared value while fostering positive economic and social interactions among the local population. However, their businesses’ survival and growth is constantly at risk due to factors like entrepreneurs’ lack of business knowledge, limited access to a broader (international) network and scarcity of financial and capital resources. This leads to a lower rate of business survival and growth, decreased sales and revenue, and an increased likelihood of individuals resorting to detrimental activities due to limited formal employment opportunities. Characteristics of the location, Iquitos city, like environment degradation, cultural disparities, unstable industries and others create a turbulent setting for business creation, further complicating Shaju’s mission. To address this problem, a group of students will provide consulting and hands-on support for the Shaju business, focusing on marketing strategies for social impact and the development of culturally appropriate training materials.
